Germany

I visited Germany twice. These trips were not in the same year, but we did go to the same city and we worked and stayed at the same church.

Germany is a very pretty country. Of course, it is very old compared to America and so very different. The Germans keep their country, cities and towns very clean. They must love flowers because flower boxes adorn the windows and there are many, many flower gardens. We were there in early summer both times so the flowers were everywhere.

The houses and buildings in Germany all seem to be very old. I don’t recall any new building going on at all. This was the same , not only in our city, but wherever we traveled.

The church where we stayed was of course, old also. It was in pretty good shape but needed to be upgraded which was why we were there. I’m pretty hazy, after all these years, about why or how we were assigned this task. But I do know that most of our team were experienced carpenters, plumbers, and other tradesmen.

One lady and I took care of feeding everyone three times each day. She was the head cook and I was her assistant. Because it is the custom in Germato shop for groceries every day, we did that also. So each morning after breakfast, we would go off to the grocery and shop for food for the next three meals. I loved my job and thoroughly enjoyed Germany. The last couple of days of each mission trip was spent touring. I remember that what I liked best was the city of Heidelberg and its castle.

We all really enjoyed the atmosphere of Germany with one exception we easily noticed that the older women were rather Dower and really didn’t smile. I’m not sure if I ever saw a smile on any older lady. Nonetheless , Germany was delightful.
